There’s no denying that working out when you’re cramping, fatigued and generally not feeling like yourself can be challenging. A lot of women chose to ditch their workouts during their cycle, but what’s best?  Should you workout during your period? Absolutely!

When you feel like there is a small person stabbing your insides the last thing you probably want to do is get moving. Its so easy to convince yourself to stay in bed with your two besties, Ben & Jerry.

Curling up into a ball with a bowl of double fudge ice cream sounds like a much better fix, but chocolate alone isn’t going to take the pain away. Believe me, I’ve tried.

 

Get Moving

Yes it’s tough to get motivated at first, but working out during your period is the best thing you can do for your body. It helps get rid of your worst symptoms. Going for a walk, doing the HBSG or even a mellow yoga flow will make a big difference.

I know this sounds crazy, but I am all about outdoor HIIT workouts during my period. Getting outside just helps put me in a better mood and but during your period you actually get WAY more out of your workouts.

During your period there are major hormonal shifts that make it so you actually have more energy (once you get going) and burn more during your workouts. The key is to just get moving!

 

More than anything you have to listen to your body. Know when you can push it and when you need to rest. And above anything else, make it fun! If you’re cramping and force yourself to do a workout you hate, you’ll end up more miserable then when you started. Find things you actually enjoy and will help distract you from the pain.

Your period shouldn’t be an excuse to lose sight of your goals for an entire week. Consistency is the key to success. That means loving your body enough to take care of it and keep moving, even when you might not totally feel up to it.

Hi Katie! Can you give me some tips on how to stop stress-eating? My exams are round the corner and I tend to stress-eat a lot during my exams. I mean, I working so hard to lose weight, and I don’t wanna worry about gaining more pounds.
